What functions do free will beliefs (beliefs that free will exists) have in our social life? The present research found that people's belief in free will increases a sense of well-being. On the other hand, belief in determinism has effects of decreasing a sense of well-being. These effects, however, were not consistently observed, and they were suggested to vary depending on conditions such as types of determinism.
