Outline of Final Research Achievements

Thermophysical properties and thermal rectification by interfacial phonon scattering have been investigated. Micrometer-long and individual carbon nanotubes are successfully deposited on Si substrate by thermophoresis technique. Electron beam lithography was used to mate metal hot-film on a carbon nanotube. Both metallic-type and semiconducting-type characteristics of carbon nanotubes were confirmed by current-voltage behavior.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

熱を自在に制御することができれば、これまで未利用のまま捨てられてきた熱マネジメントが可能になり、大きな社会貢献を果たすことができる。本研究で見いだした熱制御技術はまだまだ発展途上であるが、熱伝導率を100倍変調できる可能性を示した意義は大きい。さらにナノ材料の熱伝導率計測手法と分子動力学法によるシミュレーション技術を確立したことで、熱伝導制御に必要な研究環境を構築できたことで今後の研究発展が期待できる。引き続き、熱伝導制御に関する研究を継続することで、省エネルギー社会の実現に向けて貢献していく。
