Outline of Final Research Achievements

We attempted to get oligodendrocytes using oligodendrocyte precursor cell (OPC)-like cells which is induced from ischemic pericytes. However, it was very difficult to maintain OPC-like cells. In addition, the differentiation efficiency of ischemic pericytes into oligodendrocytes was very low.
Ischemic perycytes have limitations in the differentiation ability and in the passage times. Thus we tried to stably maintain ischemic perisytes. As a result, the cells were maintained for long periods of time by the high seeding cell density. In addition, they kept their ability to differentiate. Furthermore, we obtained neural stem cell-like cells by culturing ischemic pericytes with a BMP antagonist.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
