Outline of Final Research Achievements

To reveal the role of plasma membrane microdomains in plant innate immunity, we established the Arabidopsis transgenic lines and mutants in which microdomains were decreased. Proteome analysis showed that major immune proteins existed on microdomains. We also demonstrated that microdomains contributed to the generation of reactive oxygen species during disease response. These results suggest that microdomains play an important role in Arabidopsis immunity.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究により、恒常的にマイクロドメインが減少したシロイヌナズナ系統を作出することができたため、マイクロドメインに関する生化学実験や生理学実験を容易に行うことが可能となった。そのため、マイクロドメインの植物免疫における役割を解明することができた。マイクロドメインは免疫以外にも様々な環境ストレス応答や生育に関与することが示唆されているため、本研究で確立した実験系は他の生理学的機能とマイクロドメインの関係の解明にも展開できる。またマイクロドメインの機能が解明できれば、マイクロドメインを利用した植物機能の強化が期待できる。
