Outline of Final Research Achievements

Cadmium is a pollutant which can induce renal tubular cells death, but the underlying molecular mechanisms in cadmium exposure-induced renal tubular cells death are unclear. Here, we examined the roles of ALK4/5 pathways in cadmium exposure-induced HK-2 human proximal renal tubular epithelial cells death. As a result, we found that ALK4/5 promote cadmium exposure-induced HK-2 cells death via Smad3 and Akt pathways.

細胞死は、発生、障害、疾病など様々な生命現象の基盤となる機構であり、その制御機構の理解は重要な課題である。尿細管細胞も様々な刺激や薬物に応じて多様な細胞死が惹起され、その結果、腎機能障害につながることがわかっているが、その詳細は未だ解明しきれていない。本研究において、カドミウム曝露依存的尿細管細胞死の制御機構の一端が解明されたことは、尿細管細胞死制御機構の解明に貢献すると考えられる。
