Outline of Final Research Achievements

Virus infection is sensed by innate immune receptors such as RIG-I-like receptors(RLRs). In this research, we identified MEX3C as a positive regulator of RIG-I. Our results showed that MEX3C have pivotal role in virus infection and differentiation of immune cells.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

自然免疫は病原体感染時の初期認識及び迅速な炎症反応の惹起する重要な過程である。特にウイルス感染時には自然免疫受容体であるRIG-Iがどのようなウイルスが感染したかを認識し、自然免疫応答を誘導する。本研究ではRIG-Iを正に制御する因子としてMEX3Cを同定し、さらにこの分子の詳しい制御メカニズムの解明や獲得免疫に重要な免疫細胞の分化において重要な役割を果たしていることを明らかにした。
これらの成果は、いまだ不明な点が多いRIG-Iの活性機構の解明の一助となるものであり、MDA5とのウイルス認識の違いを明らかにする可能性を秘めている。今後もさらなる解析を続け病態生理的意義の解明につなげたい。
