Outline of Final Research Achievements

We tested the hypothesis that NGAL, known as a potent immunomodulator, would improve the outcomes of rats with excessive inflammatory responses. We were unable to show the beneficial influence of NGAL on the outcome.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究により腸管免疫機構以外への全身性のNGALの影響を明らかにし、創薬としての臨床応用への可能性を探求することで、感染症に対して必須なmultimodal approachの重要な柱の一つとなることで敗血症患者の治療戦略に一石を投じることを試みたが期待した結果は得られなかった。今後宿主条件やNGALの投与時期等の条件を検討して更なる探求することで上記を意義を見出していきたい。
