| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Natural disasters such as earthquakes and typhoons occur frequently in Japan. Consequently, foreign visitors, whose numbers have been rapidly increasing recently, can often become disaster victims in Japan. These foreign disaster victims have a high probability of becoming “disaster disadvantaged”due to a lack of ability to communicate in Japanese. However, many foreigners can speak English (even if they do not know Japanese). Thus, if Japanese workers such as paramedics, healthcare workers, and administrative staff can provide support in English, this language barrier can be reduced.
In this study, to resolve such issues, we developed audiovisual materials specifically for supporting foreign disaster victims. The purpose is to help Japanese workers, such as paramedics, healthcare workers, and administrative staff, directly provide support in English to foreigners to achieve smooth communication.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
日本で外国人が災害に遭ってしまった場合、日本語が話せないために「災害弱者」になることが多い。その時、例えば避難所等において、救護・医療・行政等の日本人関係者が被災外国人と直接英語で話すことができれば（日本語は話せなくても英語なら話せる外国人は多い）、被災外国人は安心でき、災害弱者にならずにすむ。本教材を使用することにより英語対応の準備が可能となる。また、日本人関係者が災害・救急医療現場で英語対応ができるようにしておけば、外国での災害医療活動等に参加するさいにもおおいに役立つ。
