Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study attempts to develop a new qualitative research methodology, photo-ethnography, to portray children's experiences through a dialogue between the researcher and practitioner through photography.I derived early childhood teachers' practical knowledge of Japanese implicit values and cultural practices through a dialogue with practitioners using photographs that reflect Japanese cultural characteristics and those of foreign cultures.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

(1)保育者の環境構成や保育施設に設置される物的環境の写真を介して研究者と保育者が対話することで、普段私たちがあまり意識しないような、日本の幼児教育の中に潜在する価値観や習慣などを浮き彫りにした。(2)写真を介した研究者と保育者が対話し、そこで生成されたナラティヴを分析することで、フォト・エスノグラフィーという新たな質的研究方法論を提示した。
