Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, crystal strctures of polyethyelene single crystals (PESC) in a solution and dried PESC mats was evaluated by wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) measurement.

Crystalline peaks observed in WAXD profiles for PESC in a solution shifted to high q region after evaporation of solvent. These results indicate that the crystal lattice was shrinked with evaporation of solvent.

我々の身の回りで使用されている高分子材料は、軽量で、しなやかな性質を有しているため、様々な用途で用いられており、近年では軽量であることを活かして、自動車や航空機のボディーやガラスなどの代替材料としても広く使用されている。このような高分子材料の基礎的な知見となる結晶構造を、従来の条件とは全く異なる環境下で測定し、より詳細でかつ厳密に評価することは、高性能な高分子材料の調製に大変役立つと期待される。
