Research Project
Fund for the Promotion of Joint International Research (Fostering Joint International Research)
The purpose of this project is to analyse the process of risk acceptance and consensus building between residents and project workers for conducting coastal ecosystem infrastructure projects. The UK is leading this type of project which moves seawalls inland to create spaces for re-flooded lands to create coastal habitats, mitigating sea level rise and strengthening flood control mechanisms. This research project attempted to investigate key elements which push better decision-making processes among stakeholders. The methods used were questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The project produced academic papers both in Japan and in the UK,together with the research collaborators.
