Research Abstract

前庭入力をFEF近傍のsmooth pursuit関連領域に伝える視床中継核およびこの領域に投射する皮質領域を明らかにするために,このsmooth pursuit関連領域に神経標識物質(dextran biotin)を注入し,逆行性に標識される細胞の分布を解析した。視床内では,おもにVLc (nucl. ventralis lateralis, parslateralis), VLo (nucl. ventralis lateralis, pars oralis), X, CL (nucl, centralis lateralis), MD (nucl. medialis dorsalis),に逆行性に標識された細胞が分布していた,大脳皮質領域では広範に逆行性細胞が分布しており,FEF近傍のsmooth pursuit関連領域は,従来「前庭皮質」とされてきた複数の領域から投射を受けていることが明らかとなった。
次に前庭神経核を生理学的に同定して,神経標識物質を注入し,視床への投射部位を解析した。前庭神経核から視床への投射に関しては,これまでいくつかの報告があるが,非常に弱い投射しか証明されておらず,しかも一定した結果が得られていなかった。本研究ではニホンザルにおいて,かなり強力な前庭神経核-視床投射を認めることができた。投射は両側性であったが全体としては同側が優位であった。投射部位は,VLo, VPLoに多く,CL, MDにも認められた。このCL, MDへの投射は,やや対側優位であった。先に明らかとなった,FEF近傍のsmooth pursusit関連領域に投射する視床皮質細胞の分布と比較すると,この領域への前庭入力を中継する核は,MD, CLであると考えられた。これはFEF近傍において,前庭誘発電位がやや対側優位に記録されることと一致していると考えられた。今回明らかになった前庭神経核からVLo, VPLoへの強力な投射は,おそらく頭頂葉の前庭皮質への入力を中継するものと考えられた。
