Research Abstract

ノイズのある環境で計測したデータを統合して観測精度を向上させようとすると,普通,非常に困難なトレード・オフに直面する.つまり,計測するデータの数を増加させることによって質の高い観測を実現することができるが,あまりにその数が大きすぎると,せっかく集めた多数のデータをうまく統合することができなくなるのである.本研究では,このような計測システムの一般的挙動を数学的モデルで分析し,特に不可逆データ圧縮による通信容量を超えたデータ統合の示す性質を明らかにした.主要な研究成果として,通信容量とシステム全体としての情報利得にいわゆるスケーリング則が存在することを示し,あるノイズレベルを越えると不可逆データ圧縮による大規模なデータ統合がいつでもそれを用いないシナリオよりすぐれた情報統合戦略になることを発見した.さらに,このスケーリング則と臨界的なノイズレベルに関して,システムの通信容量が無限大に発散する極限で普遍的な表現を導くことに成功した.これらの結果は,確率論における大偏差理論を統計力学のアプローチで援用したことで得られた.
