Research Abstract

ナノスケール層状物質を単層あるいは数層の薄膜に剥離して電極を作製することで、移動度の高い低次元伝導システムとなる。各層は原子スケール厚であり、この高い移動度を有する系では電気伝導がコヒーレントであることが期待される。これを実証するために、炭素系層状物質であるグラファイトを剥離して単層あるいは少数層の炭素超薄膜伝導システムの構築を試みた。SiO2 基板上にグラファイトを押しつけて薄膜を剥ぎ取り、光学顕微鏡観察によって特に薄い膜を選び出し、微細加工によって電極を作製した。まず、この光学顕微鏡観察において、従来の経験則に強く依存した原子薄膜枚数決定法に対して、CCDシステムを導入して機械的に確実に枚数を確定できる方法を確立した。これはSiO2/Si でのグリーン光の反射強度をCCDで検出して数値化することで、SiO2/Si上のグラフェン薄膜での光反射強度の低下を精密に再現性よく検出することで実現した。このようなグラフェンデバイスを制御性よく作製し、電気伝導性を調べることに成功した。まず、電界の遮蔽長を調べた。グラフェンの上下のゲート電極によって、電界を印加すると、電界は1.2 nm程度で遮蔽されることがわかった。この厚さは3層程度に相当し、電界効果素子では1層もしくは2層とするべきであることを示唆している。また、超伝導近接効果により、超伝導対のコヒーレント伝導長を調べ、ゲート変調による制御に成功した。さらに、スピン伝導でも同様に、スピンコヒーレント伝導の計測とゲート制御に成功した。これらの結果は今後のグラフェンエレクトロニクスへの展開性を示しており、本研究での成果を基として、今後さらなる研究の発展を試みたい。
