Research Abstract

本研究は骨格筋への最適筋収縮パターン(筋肥大モード、血流促進モード、エネルギー代謝促進モード)が可能な機能的電気刺激装置を開発し、糖尿病、肥満症、その他の慢性的疾患患者の他動的運動(電気刺激による)でのエネルギー消費や糖代謝改善効果の可能性を実験的に検証するものである。得られた研究成果から、機能的電気刺激による肥満症、糖尿病の運動療法の開発が可能になり、現在、京都大学付属病院及び逓信病院ですでに臨床応用が開始され、2型糖尿病患者の食後血糖のコントロール、十字靭帯再建術後の筋トレ、及び閉塞性肺疾患患者のリハビリに利用されている。この研究で開発・検証された骨格筋の機能的電気刺激は今後、寝たきり患者や骨粗しょう症、あるいは腰痛や膝痛など整形外科的疾患をもつ「運動弱者」への他動的運動処方に成り得る可能もある。
