Research Abstract |
The Costume Culture Research Seminar at this university possesses around 30,000 hand-written documents constituting excerpts from articles concerning costume that appeared in newspapers and magazine during the Meiji, Taisho and Showa eras (ca. 1870-1962). In order to make these materials available for effective research purposes, we are working on digitalizing the texts and pictures in these documents and creating a database search system. Our study on this occasion has been concerned with methods of research into lifestyle culture using this textual data from the standpoint of the culture of costume with reference specifically to the period between the Taisho and early Showa eras (ca. 1912-52).
