Research Abstract |
The present study has had two research aims: (a) to compare the role of law in regionalism in Europe, the Americas and East Asia, and (b) to propose a possible legal and institutional vision of an East Asian Community. The first aim was pursued through our monthly seminars and an international conference in 2006, the latter resulted in the publication of Tamio Nakamura (ed.) The Dynamics of East Asian Regionalism in Comparative Perspective (Institute of Social Science, University of Tokyo, 2007). The second aim was accomplished in an international symposium in 2007, where a draft Charter of the East Asian Community was presented and discussed in public. The proceedings of the symposiums together with the draft Charter of the East Asian Community are published in a booklet: Tamio Nakamura (ed.) Future East Asian Regionalism: Proposal for an East Asian Charter (Institute of Social Science, University of Tokyo, February 2008).
