Research Abstract |
造礁サンゴ骨格は,月から週の時間分解能で熱帯および亜熱帯の浅海域の古気候・環境情報を保持しうる試料である。サンゴ骨格の酸素同位体比の変化は,基本的には海水温と海水の酸素同位体比(塩分に相関)を反映する。しかし,サンゴには骨格の酸素・炭素同位体比が平衡値からずれるという「生物学的効果(vital effect )」が認められ,これは石灰化反応に内在する反応速度論的同位体効果によるものと考えられている。本研究課題では、ハマサンゴ(Porites australiensis)を用いた5 段階恒温サンゴ飼育実験を行い、にその骨格について、酸素同位体比およびSr/Ca 比等を分析し、骨格成長速度依存性を検討した。これらの化学組成に群体依存性が見出され、成長速度が速い群体ほど、酸素同位体比は高温を指標し、Sr/Ca 比は低温を指標する傾向が見られた。サンゴ記録から正確な古気候情報を読み出す場合には、成長速度の変化について注意が求めらる。
