Research Abstract |
We have developed a novel method which enables preparing organic thin films from a highly diluted solution at the concentration of 1 ppm. This meshed, the Evaporative Spray Deposition from Ultradilute Solution (ESDUS), has also realized to construct layer-by-layer deposition of polymer semiconductors without damaging a preceding first layer. Polymer light emitting diodes (PLEDs) and photovoltaic cells with polymer layered structures are fabricated by ESDUS and the device performances are investigated. The PLED structures are; a bi-layer device (A): ITO/PEDOTPSS/PFO/CN-PDHFV/LiF/Al, single-layer devices with spin-coating (B) and ESDUS (C): ITO/PEDOTPSS/CN-PDBFV/LiF/Al. The external quantum efficiency (EQE^%) was improved more than an order of magnitude in A. The EQE curve was flat throughout a current region while those of B and C showed a gradual increase. The flat tendency of A indicates that the carriers are confined at the polymer/polymer interface. The bilayer structure, PFO/CN-PDHFV, was also applied to bilayer photovoltaic cells and able to improve photovoltaic performance compared to conventional blend cells. It would be understood that the improvement likely arose from the effective prevention of the carriers being corrected at the inappropriate counter electrodes.
