Research Abstract

窒化ケイ素(Si_3N_4)セラミックスは優れた機械的・熱的特性によって、ベアリングボールとして金属軸受鋼(SUJ2)では適用できない分野に広く利用されている。しかし、現用の材料は絶縁体であることから、各種応用機器の作動中に静電気が発生することが問題となっている。本研究は、Si_3N_4 セラミックスの粒界にカーボンナノチューブ(CNT)を分散させて微量で導電性を付与させることを特徴とするものである。本研究者らは、3年間にわたってCNT の均一分散技術と焼結技術に特化した研究開発を行い、導電性と高耐摩耗性を共生させたSi_3N_4 セラミックスを開発するとともに関連の基礎データを取得した。
