Research Abstract

本研究では、強誘電性液晶の大きな屈折率変化と双安定性(自己保持特性)を利用した新規な位相可変光導波路を実現し、これを用いて光ネットワークのノードシステムに適用しうる超小型な多チャンネル光スイッチの試作研究を行い、基本原理を確認するとともに、システムへの適用性を明らかにした。具体的には、強誘電性液晶をクラッドとするSiおよびHFO_2の導波路形成技術を確立し、これを用いた2×2単位スイッチおよび2×4多チャンネル光スイッチを試作して基本動作を確認し、またHFO_2導波路を用いることでスイッチサイズを飛躍的に小さくできる見通しを得た。これにより本研究の基本概念の妥当性を確認した。
