Research Abstract

我が国は、現在、致死性感染症である狂犬病の清浄国であるが、先進国を含む世界各地でその発生が認められている。一方、2006年11月に36年ぶりに国内で本病患者が発生し、本病が再興感染症となる危険性が極めて高いことが認識された。公衆衛生上、海外の狂犬病発生地域から本病の侵入を阻止するためには、海外での狂犬病流行状態を把握し、科学的根拠に基づく侵入防止対策を確立する必要があるが、コウモリなどの野生動物間での感染が維持される森林型狂犬病の感染環および自然宿主については不明な点が多い。したがって、野生動物狂犬病の媒介動物として最も重要な動物種の1つであるコウモリに着目し、それらを由来とする狂犬病の疫学調査を行った。
