アメリカ現代詩人ゲーリー・スナイダー(Gary Snyder, 1930-)の日本時代(1856-68)について、本人とのインタビューやその書簡の収集、日本時代の知人等とのインタビューや作品分析などを通して、新しい知見を得、その成果を報告書〔『評伝ゲーリー・スナイダーの日本時代』全329頁〕をまとめた。
