Research Abstract

本研究ではかつて歴史上に出現した、表音文字を用いて中国語を表記する幾つかの事例に関する資料を、可能な限り収集整理して、それらを中国語史の脈絡中に位置づけること、更にこれらの文字使用の性格を明らかにすることを目的とした。またこれらの資料が表音文字であるという特質によって、中国語の歴史的研究にも役立つものであることが予想されることから、整理に際してはその面にも注意をはらった。その結果、資料については幾つかの目録を作製し、資料の出現に関わる歴史的背景の知見もかなりな程度得ることが出来た。また資料の分析を通じて、これらの漢字以外の文字使用は、十分な識字率が達成されていない社会において、あくまで副次的な役割に止まるものであること、つまり漢字の不完全な代替品であることが明らかとなった。その一方でこの種の資料は漢字では窺い得ない過去の言語の音的側面を復元する上で大きな效用があることは特筆されねばならない。
