| Research Abstract |
嘉永6(1853)・7 年の二度にわたり来航した、アメリカ東インド・中国艦隊(ペリー艦隊)に関して国内で作成された肉筆画、瓦版、錦絵および古文書、版本に含まれる画像を主たる対象とし、歴史学研究の基本ともいうべき史料批判の手法を用いて史料学的研究を行ったところ、『ペリー渡来絵図貼交帖』(東京大学史料編纂所蔵)が基本資料となりうること、ペリーに対してさまざまな表現がなされていることから、ペリーを描いた描く肖像画は、その当時のペリー観、アメリカ観を如実に示す資料として有効であること、ペリー来航関係画像を媒介とした儒者のネットワークの存在が明らかになった。
