Research Abstract |
In the first half of the twentieth century, newspaper and magazine companies occasionally offered maps as addition to the main papers. The main aim of this practice was discrimination for sales promotion ; these maps are underestimated, or even forgotten, in spite of their contemporary influence. Even the newspaper/magazine companies do not have full record of the maps they published. The end of this study is to investigate these maps and to reveal their intention, social backgrounds, and their influence. The procedure is as follows : (1) to make their list as the first step (2) to collect these maps as possible and to digitalize them so as to publicize on the internet. (3) to make an annotated catalogue for contents analysis As a result, 262 maps are listed and 128 of them are digitalized. The legend of maps is used to examine the intention of publishers.
