Research Abstract |
This project aims to investigate the theme of hope and its goal is to prove that this theme is worth arugueing even in legal studies and political sciences. The topics argued in this project are as follows : the shortage of lawyers in rural areas, informed consent in medical treatment, human rights of prostitutes, basic income, and labor problem. The research shows the necessity to work on legal and political issues from the viewpoint of hope, especially in the fields of security of human rights, conflict resolution, and consensus building. Theorizing hope is a key to develop a new social theory in the age of Post-Utopia, that is, in the age when the idea of utopia has losens its power. Also the studies of hope has a close relationship with the civil society arguments. It is necessary, especially in the field of law and politics, to treat carefully factors like hope, because ultimately coercion by power is inevitable in law and politics. However, the viewpoint of hope is indispensable for an individual to grasp his/her life in temporal dimension, and whether one has hope or not has a close relationship to his/her social relations. It has to be admitted that further refinment is necessary, especially more precise and operational definition of hope and its comparison with other existing concepts of social sciences like happiness, utility and others. However, it is also true that this project has set about the fundamental for hope studies in legal studies and political sciences.
