Research Abstract |
Considering multilateral negotiations on marine resources as concrete examples, we have developed some game-theoretical models that can be applied to situations, typical of international negotiations, where "a mixture of both cooperative and non-cooperative actions is possible" and where "there are players whose preferences are different qualitatively." On the technical side of game theory, we have investigated the characteristics of some solution concepts (in particular, those related to the von Neumann-Morgenstern stable set). On the practical side, we have constructed game models of international marine resource negotiations, and then, analyzed the characteristics of the negotiation outcomes and clarified the conditions for their efficiency, stability, and other properties.
