Research Abstract

幕末維新期来日外国人の平田国学研究の事例として、アーネスト・サトウとペーター・ケンペルマンを中心に日英独における史料調査・収集を行った。ドイツ書記官ケンペルマンについては、先行研究がなく詳細は不明であったが、本研究では現地調査により出自、学歴、職歴をはじめ、その人物像ならびに平田国学への関心を明らかにした。
