Research Abstract

戦時期の私大が、政府の統制や戦争によるさまざまな影響をうけた"被害者"であったという、これまで定説化している見方は事実の反面しか捉えていない。本研究の結果として、とくに戦時期の前半期を中心に、志願者バブル的な状況のなかで私大は成長を謳歌し、また戦時期を通して政府の統制はしばしば考えられているほど全面的でも苛烈でもなく、むしろ政府はこの時期に私大の助成にのりだしていたのであり、またそうしたなかで私大が成長するさまざまなチャンスも存在していたことが明らかになった。
