Research Abstract |
In recent years, the process of entering university has become more complicated and diversified. The relationship between high schools and universities is shifting from one where "the university selects new students" to one in which "applicants decide together with the university through mutual understanding". This study describes and analyses the various communication activities of high school students as they move on to university, with the aim of clarifying the main features and status quo. In this study, we have actually separated the process of moving on to university into four stages, "before application", "application", "from acceptance to entrance", and "after entrance", and have analyzed the language activities of students over these four stages. Based on these results, we have developed a specific proposal for the improvement of teaching communication skills to high school students, taking into account the various issues and problems that exist. Further, by exploring what students are expecting and what frame of mind they are taking with them in their move into university, it was possible to consider the smooth transfer of high school students to university by determining how the university should interact with the high school students, and what kind of messages they should be sharing with them.
