Research Abstract

日本南岸にみられる黒潮の大蛇行流路の形成と解消における遷移機構について、現実に2004年に発生、2005年に解消した事例を数値モデル・観測データ同化システムを用いて再現し、その遷移を引き起こす条件を定量的に評価した。形成には、その引き金となる九州東方沖の小蛇行が黒潮に沿って東進する速度が遅く、伊豆海嶺に到達するまでに不安定によって発達する時間が十分に確保されることが条件となっていた。解消には、大蛇行に比べて空間スケールの小さい擾乱が黒潮に沿って大蛇行域に到達することが重要であり、これが定常大蛇行を維持していたバランスを崩し、流路遷移が引き起こされたことが分かった。
