Research Abstract

研究期間の間、和歌山県熊野灘で4頭、小笠原父島沖で12 頭のマッコウクジラに加速度計測型データロガーを装着した。これらのデータを解析したところ、海域間で採餌行動に違いがあることが明らかとなった。また、両海域ではコミュニケーションに用いられる音声であるコーダに差異があり、異なる家系群(クラン)が存在していることが明らかとなった。このことから両海域の採餌行動の差異は、クランの違いによるものであり、特徴的な採餌行動パタンは文化的なものである可能性が示唆された。
