Research Abstract

本研究で、福島県双葉層群の8900万年前の地層から、初めて花の化石の新種を発見し、Futabanthus asamigawaensisと命名した。この花化石は、非常に小さく、花柄があり、放射相称の両性花である。花托は、デスク状に平坦であり2輪の花被が周囲に存在している。花の中央方向に曲がっている90-100本の雄蘂をもち、雌蘂は100-120本の心皮から構成されている。これらの特徴は、この花化石がバンレイシ科に属していることを示唆している。この花化石は、世界最古のバンレイシ科の花化石であり、後期白亜紀にユーラーシア東部でバンレイシ科が存在していたことを示す貴重な発見である。
