Research Abstract

In this research term, we focused on the identification of Humanin (HN) receptor and the search for small compounds which have HN activity.
1. Identification of HN receptor
I tried to identify the receptor for Humanin (HN), which is known as a medicinal seed for development of anti-Alzheimer's disease (AD) drug, using various molecular and cell biological techniques. From the results, I found that the HN receptor was consisted of WSX-1, ciliary neurotrophioc factor receptor (CNTFR), and gp1 30 consist of receptor. In addition, a novel splicing variant of WSX-1 was identified.
2. HN-like small compound search
To apply the clinical trila for AD patients, I tried to identify. the small molecule compound search. As mentioned above, one of component of HN receptor is "gp130", in frist, we tried to identify the molecules which can (a) bind to gp130, (2) show anti-AD insults activity, (3) activate STAT3, and(4) form the "WSX-1/CNTFR/gp130" complex. Until now, I found 2 molecules.
