Research Abstract |
It is not a simple thing to evaluate suicide prevention activities by the number of the suicides (or suicide rate) because of suicide prevention activities including primary preventive care such as enhance of the mental health. So we tried that to examined the influence that suicide prevention activity gave inhabitants and developed an indicator to evaluate activity from a viewpoint of the mental health. This cross-sectional survey conducted the area that wrestled with suicide prevention activity positively and its neighboring area. The investigation substances are social supports, depression scale (SDS), suicidal ideation, attitude toward suicide/ suicide prevention, stress and stress-coping. In addition, we added the about the PTSD because a child continuation killing case occurred just before investigation in an area. As a result of comparative analysis of both areas, an intervened area was much affirmative instrument support from the neighborhood, the recognition of the inquiry center in the town and have somebody to have a talk with when they worried. Inhabitants considered at risk of PTSD were 17%. Another cross-sectional survey conducted with by where the area that physically remote area that have no preventive activities. Analysis of stress-coping by factor analysis, result show that in the area that did not wrestle, there were many "denials" and "satisfaction of wants", but in the area that wrestle, there were few "denials" and many "consultation". From the above-mentioned, we could estimate by social support and stress-coping as a point of view of activities of suicide prevention.
