Research Abstract |
Using autofluorescence imaging bronchovideoscope system (AFI) and a high resolution bronchovideoscopy system with narrow band imaging (NBI), we followed up periodically localized bronchial dysplasias and examined for positron emission tomography scanning (PET) with F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose, with the maximum standard uptake value measured. Fifty-three dysplasias mainly with sputum cytology suspicious or positive for malignancy and lung cancer patients were followed up. Of 53 dysplasias, no dysplasias progressed to squamous cell carcinoma. PET identified only two spot in 34 follow up, which are diagnosed as one squamous cell carcinoma and inflammatory tumor. There were no early hilar lung cancers and severe dysplasias only PET findings.
