Research Abstract

口腔常在菌の一種であるStreptococcus gordoniiの口腔への定着、およびこの細菌による感染性心内膜炎の発症過程において、この細菌の表面にあるHsa という付着に関与する分子と、ヒトの血球細胞表面のシアル酸を含む分子が特異的に結合することが重要であることを明らかにした。また、この細菌の細胞壁を構成しているペプチドグリカンの合成の一過程を担う酵素が、細菌細胞の形態形成、歯垢形成、抗菌薬やヒト白血球の殺菌に対する抵抗性に重要な役割を果たしていることを明らかにした。
