Research Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate a mechanism on binding and dissociation of phospho-amino acids and phospho-peptide to titanium surface, and to evaluate a surface modification technique for titanium surface using recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) -2.
1. Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) analyses clarified that phosphate functional group adsorbed to the surface of the titanium-SPR sensor involving the phenomenon to dissolve the nano-thin layer of the surface.
2. An application of a water solube carbodiimide (WSC) for the surface modified with o-phospho-L-serine enabled these graft polymerization of bovine serum albumin fraction V and recombinant human BMP-2 to the surface.
Consequently, it was concluded that the molecule with phosphate functional group and WSC were greatly available for biochemical surface modification process of titanium implant with recombinant human BMP-2.
