Research Abstract |
This research explored to effective methods to improve nurses' work ability through planning, implementation, evaluation, and arrangements based on Work Ability Model by Finnish Institute of Occupational Health. In a university hospital A, we made collaborative intervention for establishing a comfortable workplace with the voluntary participation of directors of nursing and chief nurses to promote work ability through management and education. We tried to develop several methods to produce margin:"yutori," but result and level of improvement differed among workplace units (research in 2004-2005). We rebuilt our vision from the point both of intervention through management especially in the nursing organization as a whole, and enhancement of this program to be infused. But it was too difficult to make the new vision. Because confirmation both of the positioning and the meaning of this research was insufficient, we explored the possibilities for future activities. Two needs were found in the intervention. One method was the idea and practice responded to characteristics of each workplace unit, and the other one was to develop a plan for the nursing organization as a whole. We proposed the concrete action issues, such as enhancement of communication among workplace units, and clarification validity in the field. We carried out the third Work Ability Index survey. The outcome showed the following results. WAI score in 2006 had a tendency to be improved compared with the score in 2004. But WAI score in 2007 deteriorated to the score in 2004. The effect of our activities was not certain in the total work ability of the nurses. (257words)
