| Research Abstract |
The main purpose of this research is to focus how stem family system can maintain balance between generational succession and intergenerational mutual aid. The research has explored how the existence of generational succession in stem family is, and can it be said that the equity is kept while mutually supporting child-raising and elderly care between generations.
The conclusions of this study are: (1) For the generational succession, it was revealed that the eldest son succeeds in the young generation because of the falling birthrate. It is a fact that the eldest son is important, regardless of the changing era, from the era that the eldest son always inherits the "IE" to the era that anybody can inherit it. Moreover, the successions of land are systematically and equally divided, but most of them is the collective inheritance. There is a trend that the whole region inherits the sustainment of family and household. (2) It investigated the mutual help relation, such as what kind of assistance do parents extend to their child/children in the process of going to school, marriage, and living independently. As the result, parents provide assistance to their child/children, regardless of the sex and the number of siblings. Children also deal with how to match their own course of life with economic support from parent and plan the adjustment of parent-child relationship. By the mutual aid between parent and child, their equity is maintained. (3) Stem family is a family form that easily put mutual aid into practice. There is an intergenerational economic support in the family exists, by paying money for each other using pension and salary. It is shown that in the equality between generations, it is necessary to examine a long-term prospect in the fabric of life.
