野生ニホンザルの幼児虐待に関する行動学的研究

Research Abstract

母ザルによる子ザルに対する不適切な行動(引きずる、押さえつける、踏みつけるなど)を「幼児虐待」と定義し、幼児虐待が野生ニホンザル集団で暮らす母ザルの中でも見られるのかどうかを、前年度に引き続き、勝山ニホンザル集団(岡山県)と淡路島ニホンザル集団(兵庫県)の2集団において調べた。さらに、これらの霊長類と比較するために、研究がほとんど行われていない野生動物のキリンの子育て行動についても、動物園おいて資料を収集した。
勝山ニホンザル集団では、出産直後から母ザルの行動を、子ザルの生後16週を終えるまでを、継続的に追跡観察を行った。個体追跡観察とアドリブ法の併用で、6頭の母ザルの行動を観察したが、「幼児虐待」を繰り返し行う母ザルは確認できなかった。また、生後2ヶ月の孫に対して、げいいん不明の理由によって母が不在となった一週間にわたって、祖母が抱く、運ぶ、乳首を加えさせるなどの母性行動を示した。淡路島集団では、先天性四肢障害を負った子ザルが生まれてくるが、このような障害を負った子ザルへの養育行動も含めて、上述の幼児虐待の定義に該当する行動を示す母ザルを確認することはできなかった。動物園で飼育されているキリンの生後半年から1年半までの行動発達を記録したが、母からの否定的な行動は見られなかったが、授乳に関しては、完全に母によって制御されていた。サルを含む霊長類だけでなく、哺乳ということで共通する哺乳類全般にわたって、子育て行動、子どもの発達、そして、幼児虐待行動の資料収集の重要性が確認された。
