Research Abstract

カーボンナノチューブの吸収スペクトルには、テラヘルツ領域に強い強度を有するピーク構造が観測される。このピークは、金属ナノチューブのバンドル化による擬ギャップ、らせん度に起因したナローギャップとの解釈が一般的であった。昨年度、本グループでは、カーボンナノチューブ配向薄膜を作成し、その広領域分光を行った。その結果、テラヘルツ領域でのピーク構造が強く変更依存性をもつことから、このピークが金属ナノチューブに由来するものであることを確認するとともに、モルホロジ依存性などからこのピークが、従来のモデルのような電子構造に由来するものではなく、長さに依存するプラズモンピークであることを提唱した(N.Akima et al. Adv. Mater. 18,1166(2006))。
本年度は、酸によるエッチング法を用いたカーボンナノチューブの長さを制御する方法を確立し、長さの異なるカーボンナノチューブ配向薄膜の作製に成功した。これを用いた分光測定によって、テラヘルツ領域のピーク位置が長さ依存性をもち、チューブが短くなるとピーク位置が高エネルギー側にシフトすることを見出した。これは、前年度提出した、プラズモンモデルを強く支持する結果である。この原理を利用すると、カーボンナノチューブの長さを見積もりに使える可能性があり、テラヘルツ応答の測定が新しいナノチューブの評価法として有効になると期待され、本萌芽研究は、極めて興味深い展開をもたらし始めたと結論できる。これを定量的に実証するため、現在、有限長ナノチューブの電磁応答に関する理論的検討を産総研のグループと行っている。
