Research Abstract

Nd-Fe-B系ナノコンポジット硬質磁性材料は、Nd-Fe-B系交換スプリング磁石とも呼ばれ、磁化の高い軟磁性相と保磁力の高い硬質磁性相の2相がナノ結晶オーダーで微細に組み合わされた組織を有する。つまり、単にナノ結晶組織を得るだけではなく、特定の相を組み合わせたナノコンポジット組織制御が必要になる。本研究では、従来法である金属ガラスの熱誘起結晶化法・金属液体の急冷凝固法の利用といった「熱的手法」ではなく、金属ガラス中への電子線照射によるアモルファス化・結晶化を利用した電子線照射誘起相変態を利用した新しいナノコンポジット組織制御法を開発した。
その結果、磁気有害相である、Nd_2Fe_<23>B_3が、電子線照射誘起結晶-アモルファス-結晶転移によって磁気的有用相であるα-Feとアモルファス相へと変態することを見出した。本発見は、Nd-Fe-B系磁性材料のナノコンポジット組織制御における「電子線照射法などの機械的原子変位を利用した磁気的有害相消去プロセス」とも言える新技術であり、急冷凝固・粉末焼結とは異なる第3のNd-Fe-B系磁性材料作製プロセスの可能性を示唆している。また、Fe_<77.5>Nd_4B_<18.5>金属ガラスの電子線照射誘起結晶化を利用して得られたナノコンポジット組織が、実際に特異な磁区構造を形成することをローレンツ電子顕微鏡法により確認した。この手法を用いれば、ピンポイントでのナノ組織制御が可能となる。
