Research Abstract

すばる望遠鏡のMOIRCS装置に、専用狭帯域フィルターを2枚作成して搭載した。これらを用い、z=2.2(100億年前)とz=0.81(70億年前)の二つの時代において、星形成活動の指標であるHα輝線を出す銀河をそれぞれ探査した。その結果、z=2.2の一般領域における高い星形成活動性と、z=0.81における中間密度領域での高い星形成活動性が明らかになった。また、z=0.81では、あかり衛星の観測と組み合わせることによって、Hα輝線も抜け出て来れないほどの強い吸収を受けた星形成銀河が多数存在する可能性を示唆した。これは、従来のような紫外線や可視光だけの観測では、銀河の星形成活動をすべて捕えられていないこと意味し、赤外線での観測の重要性を物語るものである。
