Research Abstract

本研究では、20世紀英語圏における文学・批評界を代表するT. S.エリオットの「帝国」の理念を中心に、その理念の根源および射程を分析するとともに、その理念が同時代の帝国日本/植民地朝鮮に輸入された際にどのような変容をこうむり、予期せぬ流用・展開へとつながったのかを考察した。これは、英米の文脈の中でのみ考察されてきたエリオットの思想研究に再考を迫るものであると同時に、崔載瑞といった植民地朝鮮知識人に関する研究にも、英文学研究という外部の視点を持ち込むことによって一石を投じるものとなった。
