Research Abstract

主に日本およびオーストラリア連邦における海外調査の結果、これまで、あまり知られてこなかった、明治時代の日本海軍訓練船のオーストラリア寄港の全体像を把握することができた。そして、そのような日本海軍訓練船のオーストラリア訪問が、オーストラリアで本来、ドミナントな白人集団であったはずのアングロ・ケルト系オーストラリア人が、1900 年代において周辺的集団であったはずの日本人を「優秀であるがために危険である」と、あたかもドミナントな集団として取り扱い、彼ら自身を意図的に周辺的集団と位置づけることで、白豪主義政策や軍備増強政策の正当性に、一定程度以上の影響を与えたことを論証する一次史料を中心とした文献収集、ならびに、そこから得た新しい知見に基づく執筆および学会等で報告等を行うことができた。
