| Research Abstract |
律令国家成立期に導入された「火葬」について、出土資料を対象に考古学的分析をおこない、東アジアにおける火葬の伝播過程とその背景について検討をおこなった。日本の「火葬」は、中国から最新の知識として導入されたもので、仏教思想を基調として、支配者層では都城制や喪葬令を背景として受容し、地方では僧侶を介して受容したと考えられる。また、新羅でも同様に、中国から火葬を導入し、国内で独自に変容していたことが分かった。古代における火葬の伝播過程からは、中国を中心とした東アジア世界における国際関係を読み取ることができる。
