Research Abstract

地殻変動データに基づく千島海溝沿いに発生したプレート境界型地震の解析により、1952年と2003年の十勝沖地震は、ほぼ同じ領域を破壊し、1973年根室半島沖地震の破壊域とは50km 以上の未破壊域があることがわかった。この領域では、1999年から2003年十勝沖地震発生以前の地殻変動データから推定されたプレート間の固着強度も、根室半島沖地震、十勝沖地震の震源域と比較して小さく、この領域のみを破壊する大地震は発生しないことが示唆される。
