Research Abstract

フォトニック結晶は導電体または誘電体の周期的なパターンを有し、ブラッグ回折により電磁波を完全反射する機能材料である。本研究では、マイクロメータオーダの金属製フォトニック結晶を作製し、ミリ波領域における電磁波として、テラヘルツ波の伝播特性や共振挙動について調査を行った。テラヘルツ波は光の直進効果と電波の回折効果を併せて示すため、次世代ユビキタス社会を支える短距離用の高速情報通信を担う周波数帯として大いに注目を集めている。さらに、テラヘルツ波を用いたセンシング技術は、次世代の安心・安全社会を構築する食品および生体用センサーの開発には欠かせないものである。研究遂行においては、CAD/CAMプロセスのマイクロ光造形システムを世界に先駆けて開発し、微細な金属構造を形成できる新しいプロセスとして確立できたことが大きな推進力となった。具体的には、純銅粒子を分散した高分子材料を用いて微細な3次元構造体を形成し、脱脂および焼結処理を施すことで、純銅製のマイクロ構造体へと転換することに成功している。金属製フォトニック結晶では、直径270μnで長さ360μmの純銅製マイクロロットが3次元に展開し、格子定数900μmり周期構造が精密に実現された。テラヘルツ波領域における電磁波特性の評価では、あらゆる方向から進行してくる電磁波を反射できる完全バンドギャップの形成が、周波数0.375〜0.525THzにおいて確認されている。金属製の3次元格子による回折効果を示唆しており、効率の良い電磁波の制御構造として応用が期待できる。また、有限要素法を用いた電磁波解析によサ、金属製フォトニック結晶に点欠陥や面欠陥を導入すれば、バンドギャップ中に局在モードを形成し、平面波を発振できミることも示唆されており、新しいテラヘルツ波センサーの構築へ寄与しうる結果が得られたと考えられる。
